Bank of Uganda championing smart regulation while supporting financial sector deepening
The governor Bank of Uganda Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile has said that the Bank has a duty to ensure that the regulated financial institutions fruitfully balance risk mitigation and innovation. This he says can be done by championing smart regulation while supporting financial sector deepening.
The Governor further said that the BoU championed the amendment of the Financial Institutions Act to support agency banking, bancassurance, and Islamic finance, which are expected to enhance financial intermediation and extend access to financial services in a rationalised manner.
The Governor spoke at a breakfast discussion organised by the Financial Sector deepening Uganda (FSDU) at Kampala Serena Hotel this morning. Download the governor’s full speech here
